We use Facebook on a daily basis to promote our blog posts, let our followers know the latest updates and to respond to users who message us. Over the last month we noticed quite a big change in how many reaches we got for our posts, the number had dropped noticeably.
The number of reaches seemed to only drop on certain post types and not on all of them. At first we wasn’t sure what was causing the drop but after posting some more and trying out a few different things it was clear which posts were being effected.
When we write a new blog post and want to share it with our Facebook followers we copy and paste the URL into the status box, Facebook then automatically builds our post, taking images, title and description from the page of the speified URL. This type of post/link receives less weight and less reaches, if you write a text status and paste a text link without letting Facebook build the post for you it receives more reaches, roughly double.
